Kid-Friendly Things to Do in St. George

We have 6 young children so we're always looking for fun things to do with them when we go to St. George. We've learned that the possibilities are endless and each time we go, we try something new. Here are some of the things we've done.

Snow Canyon
Snow Canyon is a great day trip for a family.

There are short hikes and even caves.

There are sand dunes in Snow Canyon that the kids beg to go to. I have to feel up to it because we end up with sand EVERYWHERE afterwards. But they are a lot of fun.

Our kids love exploring and climbing on the slick rock.

Snow Canyon is great to take a lunch picnic to and spend several hours in the canyon.

Pioneer Park
I think if you were to ask my kids, they would say Pioneer Park is their favorite place to visit in St. George.

This slot canyon, which we affectionately call "the crack," is about 100 yards long and the kids enjoy going through it, although I can't say the same about my husband.

Also around Pioneer Park there is more slick rock to climb on and explore.

We found this arch at the top of one of the slick rock hills.

The name Pioneer Park comes from some old cave-like dwellings where pioneers made a home.

You can spend anywhere from an hour to 3 hours there.

Sand Hollow Reservoir

Sand hollow is a great little reservoir for just playing on the beach. The sand is nice, but it will stain clothes. We also borrowed my mom's wave runners and played with them that day. There isn't any shade, so make sure you take an easy-up or sun umbrellas.

The Tonaquint Nature Center
The nature center has a duck pond, walking trail along the river, and signs to teach about wildlife and plants. It is a great Sunday afternoon activity.

St. George LDS Temple and Visitors Center.

Another great Sunday afternoon activity is to visit the LDS temple and Visitors Center. The Visitors Center has many things to entertain the children like videos, hands-on activities, displays, and more.

Petroglyphs
There are several spots in St. George with Indian Petroglyphs on the sandstone.

They were kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but they were exciting to find.
Playgrounds
St. George has great playgrounds! Our favorites are Cottonwood Cove Park, Firehouse Park, and Tonaquint Park.

ATVing
There are miles and miles of open land for riding ATVs. We don't own any, so it's not something we do too often, but you can ride for miles.

One day we rented this 4-seater rhino and spent the day taking turns riding it. I think next time we'll rent 2 of them and then we can take our whole family on a little day-trip.

Geo-caching

Geo-caching is one of our family hobbies.

St. George is an outdoorsman's paradise so there are hundreds of geo-caches to do. We always look for the ones with a short hike because our young children can't go very far.

Zions National Park

Zions is only about 45 minutes away from St. George. The park offers these buses that shuttle you up and down the canyon. It has a tour guide playing so you can learn about Zions. It was a great way to travel with the kids. We got off and on when we wanted to.

We took the kids there one day. It was a cold, rainy day the day we went so we need to go back, but it was still fun and beautiful.

So much to do! I can't decide what to do next time we go... :)
